Sven Weisemann ‎– „Leontica EP“ [Essays Music ‎– Essays 001] (2009)

Sven Weisemann ist einer der wenigen Artists, die man sofort am Sound erkennt. Virtuose Klavier oder Keyboardpassagen gepaart mit Basic Channel Hallreminiszenzen prägen die meisten seiner Releases. Dennoch oder gerade deswegen werd ich dessen nie überdrüssig. Zwei Alben, 25 Maxis oder EPs und unzählige Remixe und Samplerbeiträge sind seit 2004 unter seinem Namen rausgekommen. Nicht zu vergessen übrigens, dass der gute Mann bereits seit 1997 auflegt und dieses Handwerk ebenfalls in einer Weise beherrscht, wie wenige andere.

Das Erscheinungsjahr dieser kleinen, von innen nach außen laufenden 7″ war für ihn sicherlich wegweisend. Erstes Album (Xine) veröffentlicht, das Projekt Jouem initiiert und eben das Label Essays gegründet. „Rootless“ ist dann auch ein Paradebeispiel für seinen Sound, wohingegen „Garden Of Fantasy“ fast schon in Ambientgefilde abtaucht. Sehr schön ist auch das beigelegte Bild „Treiben“ des chinesischen Künstlers Chen Yun Wang. Einzig ist die Essays Serie bis heute leider unvollendet, da die vierte und bislang letzte Scheibe die EP Gravity Treatment 1/2 hieß aber bis jetzt den zweiten Teil schuldig blieb. Vielleicht ja…

Geir Jenssen wird gerne als Erfinder des sogenannten „Nordic Ambient“ Genres genannt. Allerdings brachte ein Werbespot der Jeansmarke Levi’s (Alternative Version) „Novelty Waves“, und damit auch Biosphere, einem breiteren Publikum erst richtig näher.
